Designing a Mobile-First Resource Library for Asthma Patients
Spearheaded the UX redesign of a critical healthcare resource library. By leveraging Hotjar telemetry and advocating for a mobile-first approach, we transformed a high-friction filtering experience into an intuitive, accessible system for patients and caregivers.
Overcoming High Friction in Mobile Filtering
The existing resource library filters performed poorly on mobile devices. They failed to follow UX best practices, resulting in excessive scrolling, low user engagement, and a frustrating experience for asthma patients and caregivers trying to find critical health information quickly.
Unearthing Friction via Hotjar Telemetry
Hotjar Analysis
Analyzed mobile vs. desktop filter performance using Hotjar heatmaps and session recordings, revealing severe drop-off rates on smaller screens.
Key Finding
Users were abandoning the filtering process entirely due to excessive scrolling and a lack of clear visual feedback on their active selections.
System Constraint
The backend architecture required a solution that could dynamically update resource cards without requiring full page reloads, preserving user context.
Evidence-Based Interface Diagnostics
Accessible Resource Cards
Streamlined card design with clear visual hierarchy, accessible typography, and prominent calls to action.
Favorites Functionality
Introduced a "Save to Favorites" feature, allowing patients and caregivers to quickly bookmark critical resources for future reference.
Mobile Filter Controls
Redesigned intuitive filter controls with clear user feedback, reducing cognitive load and excessive scrolling for mobile users.
Driving Strategic Change
Advocating for Mobile-First
Championed a mobile-first design approach against initial stakeholder hesitation. Used Hotjar data to prove that the majority of our target audience was accessing the library via smartphones, securing buy-in for the new strategy.
Client & Stakeholder Alignment
Managed client expectations throughout the iterative design process. Successfully advocated for data-driven design decisions that resulted in exceptional client feedback and a strategic shift in their digital roadmap.
